The campaign mode takes you through all three factions. There are also differences in how base expansion works, as well as the way the tech trees work and how they distribute to different parts of your base. Meanwhile, the Empire of the Rising Sun's technologically advanced forces spit out small core vehicles from their construction yard, which then must be driven to a location and unfurled. The Soviets build structures on the map as soon as they start construction, leaving their structures open to attack while being built. Each faction builds differently, with the Allies retaining the most C&C-like build system of placing completed structures on the battlefield. The faction differences are meaningful enough to require you to employ different strategies, but similar enough to where you don't immediately feel like one side has an edge. Three factions and a big-time focus on naval combat are the cornerstones of Red Alert 3. But the feeling of victory doesn't last long, as a new threat emerges as a direct result of the timeline-tampering and the Japanese forces rumble onto the scene to create a three-way conflict. Instead, the Allied forces are down and out. With no Einstein, there's no nuclear weaponry, and when the Russians go back to the future, they find that the Soviet forces are no longer on the verge of crumbling. Thinking fast, the Russians employ the use of an experimental time machine, go back into time before all of the events of the Red Alert series (which, if you remember, were also caused by a time machine), and eliminate Albert Einstein. The opening shows you the Soviet leaders, on the verge of defeat as the Allies roll onto Russian soil. The story in Red Alert gets a big reset in the form of some time machine chicanery. With its alternate-history plot line creating a collection of campy concepts like armored attack bears, hovering battle zeppelins, and Tesla-powered weaponry, it manages to give you just enough knowing winks that let you know they're in on the joke without hitting you over the head and essentially saying "hey, look at how funny and clever we are!" Oh, and it's a solid real-time strategy game, too. You'll do a lot of your fighting on the water. While the original Command & Conquer line certainly has its share of great, dynamic characters, it's the side story, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, that goes the extra mile. Also, due to the size and complexity of the map, some pathing issues may arise. While craters can be better defended and have more space for buildings, it is harder to expand your economy. All ore nodes have the stock values so holding onto the derricks can make or break a match. shipyards are locked as there are no water bodies in the map.Įvery player has access to 3 oil derricks that are easily capturable. Or more accurately, they can take damage but don't ever collapse. With its lack of land this map likely favours Empire quite a bit, with allied air-rushers probably enjoying the close proximity of the opposing bases as well. Each player's part of the island is pretty easily defendable, but as all extra ore nodes are on water you will eventually be forced to embark lest you let your opponent run away with an economic advantage. The focus of this map was put less on ground based warfare and more on air and naval. Expecting a dull day of work like usual, the scientists on site now find themselves right in the middle of a full-scale assault featuring not one, but two of their mortal enemies. Set near a far north Allied research facility, two commanders have simultaniously landed ashore looking to disrupt the Allies' plans and take any newly discovered technology for themselves.
