Whether it’s a web news story or a study posted on the U.S. To create a citation of an online article, you need the author, date, title, publisher/publication, and URL. When it comes to your APA paper, you might find that you use online articles to keep things recent and relevant to your study or topic. And if you use a citation generator to make your life a little easier, these examples can ensure nothing was missed. While it’s good to have a basic understanding of APA citation format, viewing examples of some of the more tricky citations can ensure you have commas and periods right where you should. APA also clarifies what you can do when other reference elements are missing. If you don’t have an author at all, use the title. Use the spelling exactly as it appears in the work, including lowercase letters, hyphenated, and two-part surnames.įran, A.Before you check out how to format multiple and no authors, there are a few overarching rules. If you only have one author, it’s pretty straightforward, but most of the time, there are multiple authors. In APA formatting, another area with extensive variations is the listing of the author’s on the reference page. Use commas between parts of the same reference, like separating the author’s last name and first initial. The titles of books and journals are in sentence case.Journal issue numbers are in parenthesis rather than having a comma between the issue and volume.Include periods to separate every element (authors, titles, etc.), but not after a URL.However, in their 7th edition of the APA Manual, this style guide tried to make it simple with a few overarching rules. Punctuation for your APA reference page can get confusing fast with all those commas and periods. Just remember to follow the alphabet A to Z, and numbers are alphabetized how they sound.ĭouglas, J. Thankfully, APA has all the rules laid out for you when it comes to trying to alphabetize Dougla and Douglas. Putting everything in alphabetical order can seem easy, but it gets a little confusing when it comes to duplicate names and numbers. Alphabetizing ReferencesĪPA requires you to alphabetize your reference list by the author’s last name or title. For these particular cases, you add an in-text citation, but APA doesn’t make you create a reference citation. These include personal communications, entire websites, and common knowledge. However, there are individual cases where you do not include a reference citation for some sources. In most cases, the information you find in the references includes the author, date, title, and source elements for each different in-text citation you used for websites, periodicals, and books. What Information Goes on the APA Reference Page? All references are in alphabetical order.References that go past the first line have a hanging indent. The reference citations are double spaced with no additional lines between them. It’s not capitalized, bold, or italicized. The essential APA reference page arrangement list includes: Why? Because it follows the specific format called for by APA requirements. The formatting for an APA reference page is precise. Every in-text citation, beyond those specified by APA, has a corresponding reference list on the References page. A reference is listed only on the APA reference list however, an in-text citation is created throughout the body of the text. With a reference page clarified in your mind, it’s essential to explore the difference between a reference citation and an in-text citation. To get clarity about formatting, it’s best to see an APA reference page example in action. However, it also has some special formatting requirements like being sorted alphabetically and a hanging indent. Like the paper itself, the reference list includes similar elements to what is found in the body of the paper like an optional running header, title, double spacing, page number, and 1-inch margins. It provides the who, when, what, and where information for each different resource you used. An APA reference page is where you find all the references for the in-text citations included in your research. In 1960, Maris hit a single, double, and two home runs in his first game as a Yankee. In a seven-player deal in December 1959, he was sent to the Yankees with Kent Hadley and Joe DeMaestri in exchange for Marv Throneberry, Norm Siebern, Hank Bauer, and Don Larsen. In the late 1950s, Kansas City frequently traded their best young players to the New York Yankees-a practice which led them to be referred to as the Yankees' "major league farm team" -and Maris was no exception. He was selected to play in the second of two All-Star Games held that year. In 1959, he played in 122 games and hit 16 home runs he missed 45 games during the second half of the season as a result of an appendix operation. Maris played in 99 games and hit 19 home runs for Kansas City in 1958. On June 15, 1958, after playing in 51 games and hitting nine home runs for the Indians, he was traded to the Kansas City Athletics with Dick Tomanek and Preston Ward for Vic Power and Woodie Held. He finished his rookie season with 14 home runs. Two days later, he hit the first home run of his career, a grand slam off Tigers pitcher Jack Crimian at Briggs Stadium in Detroit. Maris made his major league debut on April 16, 1957, with the Cleveland Indians. Maris with the Cleveland Indians in 1957 Cleveland Indians (1957–1958) With all five teams for which Maris played in the minors, the clubs' win-loss records improved from the prior season. In game two of the 1956 Junior World Series, Maris, playing for the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association ( Triple-A league), set a record by driving in seven runs. In four minor league seasons from 1953 to 1956, Maris hit. He was named rookie of the year in the Northern League, then moved on to Keokuk, Iowa, the next season. Maris began play for the Indians' minor league organization at Fargo (the Fargo-Moorhead Twins) in 1953. He met his future wife, Patricia, in the tenth grade at a high school basketball game. In that 1951 game, he also scored a fifth touchdown on a 32-yard run from scrimmage. In football, Maris set a national high school record, which still stands, for most return touchdowns in a game, with four (two kickoff returns, one punt return, and one interception return). Maris played both baseball and football for the Shanley Deacons. In 1950, Maris, a Catholic, transferred to Bishop Shanley High School in Fargo, and graduated from there in June 1952. Maris entered Fargo Central High School in 1948. The Maris family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1938, and to Fargo, North Dakota, in 1946. His father died in Fargo in 1992 at age 81. Maris' parents had a turbulent marriage and divorced in 1960. Maris' brother Rudolph, who was a year older, developed polio at age 18 in 1951. "Rudy" Maras and Ann Corrine "Connie" (née Perkovich) were born in Minnesota, and were of Croatian heritage. Roger Eugene Maris was born on September 10, 1934, in Hibbing, Minnesota in 1955, his father changed the surname from Maras to Maris. Maris’ AL single-season home run record stood until 2022, when Aaron Judge hit 62 home runs in a single season for the New York Yankees. In 2001, Barry Bonds surpassed that mark with 73 home runs, though all three players used performance-enhancing drugs. In 1998, Mark McGwire set a new MLB record with 70 home runs the same year Sammy Sosa also surpassed Maris' record with 66 home runs. Maris hit his 61st home run in the last game of the season, which led to questions about the legitimacy of his record. Before Maris broke Ruth's record, the AL baseball season had been extended to 162 games. Maris's home run record was controversial, as the previous single-season home run record (60, set by Babe Ruth in 1927) was set during a period when MLB teams played 154 games per season. Maris appeared in seven World Series he played for Yankees teams that won the World Series in 19 and for a Cardinals team that won the World Series in 1967. Maris was an AL All-Star from 1959 through 1962, an AL Most Valuable Player in 19, and an AL Gold Glove Award winner in 1960. Maris finished his playing career as a member of the St. He was traded to the Kansas City Athletics during the 1958 season, and to the New York Yankees after the 1959 season. Maris played in the minor leagues from 1953 to 1956, and made his major league debut for the Cleveland Indians in 1957. The record remained unbroken until 1998 and remained the American League (AL) record until Aaron Judge broke it in 2022. He is best known for setting a new MLB single-season home run record with 61 home runs in 1961. Roger Eugene Maris (Septem– December 14, 1985) was an American professional baseball right fielder who played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). April 16, 1957, for the Cleveland Indians “People were not laughing or anything like that.” “Everyone treated it very professionally and it wasn’t awkward,” Barnes said. Mallory Barnes ’22, a student in SART 15, “Drawing I,” reflected on this aura of professionalism. People really just look at you as a subject for their art. In Morton’s experience, the art department goes out of their way to ensure that each model feels comfortable and safe. It requires emailing the art department and inquiring into availability, no audition necessary. Models are instructed to do one reclined pose and one seated, with the job wrapping up in just under two hours. The posing occurs in intervals of twenty to forty minutes, with breaks as needed. Welcome to the art of figure modeling, where you get paid twenty dollars an hour to lend your body as the subject of peer artwork.Īs far as the logistics of the gig go, Afton Morton ’24, who began figure modeling this term, described the process as both “clinical” and “professional.” Figure models enter the visual arts center, change into a robe, enter a classroom, and remove the robe to pose. For a select group of Dartmouth student figure models, it is merely an on-campus job. Your Dartmouth peers are staring at your unimposed body, making observations and scribbling sketches. Nathan Diller is a consumer travel reporter for USA TODAY based in Nashville.Envision this, you are perched in the middle of a classroom. “If you swim in the ocean without a swimsuit on, you’ll never go back in with a suit on,” Lee said. Harris echoed that and suggested doing some research beforehand to make sure it’s safe and legal to go nude. Lee added that there is typically no fee to visit clothing-optional beaches, though some, such as Haulover Beach Park, charge for parking. “You know, you don't lay your towel down at somebody’s feet and think that you’re going to be looking up (and down) their body or anything,” she said. Visitors should also be respectful of others and their space. In addition to SPF, she recommended bringing a towel to sit on. Taxpayers qualifying for relief who live outside the disaster area need to contact the IRS at 1.866.562.5227. The IRS will work with any taxpayer who lives outside the disaster area but whose records are located in the affected area. However, if you receive a late filing or late payment penalty notice from the IRS and were entitled to relief, you should call the number on the notice to have the penalty abated. That means that taxpayers do not need to contact the IRS to get this relief. The IRS automatically provides filing and penalty relief to any taxpayer with an IRS address of record located in the disaster area. Relief also includes a waiver of late-deposit penalties for federal payroll and excise tax deposits normally due during the first 15 days of the disaster period. Remember, however, that the extensions were an extension of the time to file, not the time to pay, so payments for 2016 tax returns are still keyed to the April 18, 2017, due date. This also includes returns on extension, including businesses with extensions that run out on Friday, September 15, 2017. That means that returns and payments that were originally due during this period, including the September 15, 2017, and January 16, 2018, deadlines for making quarterly estimated tax payments, will now be January 31, 2018. Here's what the relief entails: tax filing and payment deadlines which began starting on September 4, 2017, in Florida and September 5, 2017, in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will be pushed off until January 31, 2018. "The IRS will continue to closely monitor the storm's aftermath, and we anticipate providing additional relief for other affected areas in the near future." "This has been a devastating storm for the Southeastern part of the country, and the IRS will move quickly to provide tax relief for victims, just as we did following Hurricane Harvey," said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. Virgin Islands the municipalities of Adjuntas, Aguas Buenas, Barranquitas, Bayamón, Camuy, Canóvanas, Carolina, Cataño, Ciales, Comerío, Culebra, Guaynabo, Hatillo, Jayuya, Juncos, Las Piedras, Loiza, Luquillo, Orocovis, Patillas, Quebradillas, Salinas, San Juan, Utuado, Vega Baja, Vieques, and Yauco in Puerto Rico and any area designated by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as qualifying for either individual assistance or public assistance in the State of Florida (all 67 counties of Florida) would receive this and other special tax relief. Currently, the IRS said that affected taxpayers in the islands of St. The lychee is a finicky tree to grow in Southern California though many gardeners do it with ease. In San Diego, plan for about 20′ tall with a rounded canopy. The tree itself is gorgeous and evergreen with a grey trunk and pretty leaves though it can reach up to 40′ in the wild. Cut it away to eat the sweet, delicate flesh which has a pleasant floral aroma (this disappears somewhat during canning) but beware of the large seed inside. The pretty red rind is totally inedible so don’t even try it. The lychee originates from China and is a small fruit about 1.5″ in size. This Asian fruit is growing in popularity and most frequently enjoyed canned in the United States though now can be bought fresh at a number of Asian markets. Do some research based on your growing location. The tree is deciduous from February through April and experts suggest that irrigation cease during February and March, resuming in April. Cherimoya grow in a variety of soil types though well-draining and moderately fertilized is best. Skip container planting as they don’t do well in pots and make sure they are protected from Santa Ana winds. Trees do well in coastal California though best at a slightly higher elevation around 3-15 miles from the ocean. The cherimoya comes from sub-tropical, mild climates and can’t handle extreme heat. The flavor is an interesting mix of other tropical fruits like coconut, pineapple and mango. Mark Twain even referred to cherimoya as one of the most delicious fruits known to man. Its nickname is the custard apple which makes sense after you experience the sensation of sticking a spoon into its soft flesh. This fruit is thought to be native to the Andes in Peru. Seeds from Mexico were planted in California around 1871 and cherimoya has been growing well here ever since. Many homeowners use them as shade trees over patios or as container plants. Extreme heat or cold will stunt fruit production. Though they are drought-tolerant, deep watering on a regular basis will yield more fruit. Loquat trees do well in wind, full sun in coastal climates and a number of soil types but they do need good drainage to survive. Some liken the taste to a cross between a guava fruit and a passion fruit. The flesh inside is sweet and surrounds three or so large seeds. The 1-2″ oval fruit grows in clusters and has a tangy-flavored skin typically yellow or orange in color. The loquat is an ornamental flowering shrub that’s native to southern China (though cultivated mostly in Japan) and can grow up to 30′ high though the average height is usually around 10′. Some San Diego farmers are replacing expensive water-guzzling citrus and avocado crops with dragon fruit as a more profitable alternative. Because dragon fruit is a low water plant, it’s perfect for xeriscaping. The plant will thrive in full sun near the coast but will require some shade inland to prevent burning. Because the stems can reach up to 20 feet in length, dragon fruit needs to be staked. However, more than 100 varieties of dragon fruit grow in California alone.ĭragon fruit actually grows on a large cactus-like trees. The latter dragon fruit contains considerably more nutrients, which is why Pitaya bowls across San Diego and beyond are tinted dark pink. The type of dragon fruit found in Asia has a white center ( Hylocereus undatus) while the Central American version is magenta inside ( Hylocereus costaricensis) with a slightly richer strawberry-like flavor. The consistency is similar to kiwi, except the small, edible seeds are scattered throughout the flesh. Pitaya is another name for dragon fruit which was first discovered in Central America, but is extremely popular in Asia. Health food fanatics have probably seen marketing on overdrive lately to promote Pitaya as the ultimate superfood. Dragon Fruit ( Hylocereus undatus or Hylocereus costaricensis) But, if you’re considering one of these unique trees, here are some general growing guidelines. Before purchasing a tree, do ask them for growing instructions specific to your home. Luckily, exotic fruit trees can be sourced locally from the nurseries listed below. A number of exotic fruit trees grow well in San Diego but since they aren’t native to our region, they do require a bit more care. Homeowners with enough space for fruit trees can think beyond apple, orange, lemon and lime. WTF.?!?! YOU SINGING ABOUT AN APPLE CORE?!?! Motivation 'Human's sunscreen has a number of additives in them and fragrances which can be an irritant to dogs' skin. 'Fortunately, there are plenty of things we can do to keep our pets cool and safe as temperatures climb.'ĭr Anna Ewers Clark, veterinary research and standards lead at Blue Cross, advises how often to put sunscreen on your pooch and what to use. 'In fact, research from 2020 shows that 74 per cent of heat-related illness in dogs seen by vets is caused by exercise in high temperatures – taking your dog out for a walk during this kind of heat can result in serious illness, or even be fatal. 'One of the biggest heatstroke triggers is exercise in hot weather. 'Signs of heatstroke vary from excessive panting, confusion, bright red gums, foaming at the mouth, collapse or even seizures. 'In warmer weather, dogs can be at risk of dangerous heatstroke, which is a serious situation as severe cases can develop quickly and have fatal consequences,' said Shauna Spooner, a vet nurse from PDSA. Male and younger dogs are also slightly more at risk as they are more likely to over-exert themselves while playing or exercising. Pugs and other flat-faced breeds are more prone to overheating because there is less surface area available in their noses for heat exchange and they cannot pant as efficiently. They cool themselves down by panting which isn't very effective, and can only sweat through their paws. They also must be kept out of direct sunlight until the skin is fully healed.ĭogs are more susceptible to heatstroke than humans because they do not sweat like we do. If owners do notice their dog has been burnt by the sun, the PDSA advises the gentle application of a cold compress to cool the skin. It is important to ensure the human sun cream does not contain zinc oxide or para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) as these are both toxic for dogs if licked off their body. However, fragrance-free, waterproof sun creams designed for babies and children of minimum SPF 30 can be used as an alternative. There are special sun creams available that are designed for canine use which can be bought from pet shops or through a vet. To ensure their dog is properly protected, owners should apply two layers at least 15 minutes before they go outside, and continue reapplying throughout the day. They also recommend monitoring the pooch or distracting them with a toy until the cream has fully dried and soaked into their skin, as they could lick it off. Vets advise to stay well clear of the eyes when rubbing in the cream as it may cause irritation, and to test it on a small patch of skin first to check they don't have a reaction. Owners are encouraged to rub sunblock onto exposed areas of their skin, like their nose, ear tips, eyelids and belly. They will then dip slightly between tomorrow and Friday - but bounce back at the weekend with an unprecedented 40☌ (104☏) possible.Īs well as sunburn, dogs are also at risk of a rare type of skin cancer called 'squamous cell carcinoma' that is caused by exposure to the sun's UV rays. Temperatures have already hit 31.4☌ (88.5☏) today after getting to 32☌ (90☏) yesterday. 'This is particularly important for white dogs, but also breeds such as English Bull Terriers, Dalmatians and Boxers.' 'To prevent your pooch's skin from burning, you can buy pet-friendly sunscreen, which you should apply regularly to the top of their ears and any areas of thin fur. 'It's best not to let Snowy lie out in the sun for long periods of time and try to avoid going for walks during the hottest part of the day, as this may also result in heatstroke. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Nina Downing, a vet from veterinary charity PDSA, said: 'Any pets with white fur are at higher risk of developing burns from prolonged sun exposure - especially on their ear tips. If a dog has white or particularly light-coloured fur they are even more at risk of sun burn, as more of the harmful UV rays can reach their skin. Just like humans, our pooches are susceptible to painful sun burns and skin cancer after prolonged sun exposure, which can also cause hair loss.Įxposed areas of skin on their lips, nose, ears and belly are especially vulnerable to sun damage, while breeds with short or thin fur are also at high risk. While many Brits are stocking up on sun cream at the prospect of a second weekend heatwave, vets are advising you pop a bottle in your basket for your dog too. The last time Serious Sam 2 was available on consoles was on the original Xbox, while the games in this package were all available on Xbox 360. Serious Sam 2 is by far the black sheep of the series, but I think that only makes it more important and why it should be included here. To anyone not familiar with the series that may seem complete, but The Second Encounter is not Serious Sam 2, which isn’t in this collection. It is weird though that this collection includes Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter and its Legend of the Beast DLC, as well as Serious Sam 3: BFE and its Jewel of the Nile DLC. Serious Sam is just a fun series of shooters that I can’t recommend enough. It’s also hard not to laugh when the Beheaded Kamikazes start running at me screaming. Sam is basically a less annoying Duke Nukem, who reacts more to the situation and is not focusing on spouting off one-liners he stole from 80’s movies. Dialog from Sam however can be comedic at times, and I like that a lot. Serious Sam follows Sam Stone as he saves the planet from alien invaders. Plot and writing aren’tgoing to blow anyone away. With a modern lens these aspects may just seem normal, but at the time Serious Sam was doing things his contemporaries could not. What is important to note is that at the time, the things Serious Sam could on low end PCs was impressive, because it had large open areas with long draw distances and lots of enemies. Anyone not familiar with Serious Sam but with say Duke Nukem or Doom will feel right at home, because Serious Sam is not about reinventing the genre in major ways. Exploration is rewarded with secret areas filled with ammo, armor, and other weapons. Everything is polygonal because the series only started in 2001, but the gameplay is all about managing large crowds of enemies using a variety of weapons while moving around constantly to dodge enemy attacks. The Serious Sam games are very much old school first person shooters. I know I have, and while I am familiar with Serious Sam, I still feel like it is a somewhat ignored series, and I hope that people see this collection and pick it up. With the recent resurgence of Doom in 2016 I feel like people have been looking for more fast paced first person shooters with hints of exploration. THIS GAME IS ALL ABOUT SHOOTING GUNS!
